10 Best Cofounder Matching Platforms in 2027
Paid and free, side by side: what each one is, what it costs, who it suits and what to watch out for, with prices checked in October 2026
TL;DR: Going into 2027, the best cofounder matching platforms are Foundinity, YC Co-Founder Matching, CoFoundersLab, FounderCloud, Entrepreneur First, Antler, Founder Institute, Reddit, Indie Hackers and LinkedIn. Prices and limits: each platform's own page, 26 October 2026.
How we compared: we read each platform's own pricing, FAQ and terms pages on 26 October 2026, kept only places that are live and used for finding a cofounder, and ranked them on four things: what you learn about how someone works before a call, what moves a match to a conversation, the real cost in money and hours, and the sourced watch-outs. Numbers a platform publishes about itself are labelled self-reported.
Which cofounder matching platform is best in 2027?
For most people, two accounts: Foundinity to see people who match how you work, and YC Co-Founder Matching for volume. Add a program only if you can go full-time.
The type matters more than the brand. Matching platforms rank people for you (Foundinity). Directories give you a pool to search and message yourself (YC, CoFoundersLab, FounderCloud). Programs select people and form teams in person (Entrepreneur First, Antler, Founder Institute). Communities and networks are places to post and reach out (Reddit, Indie Hackers, LinkedIn).
The 10 best cofounder matching platforms in 2027
1. Foundinity: best for finding someone you can actually build with
Foundinity is a cofounder matching platform that shows you people who fit how you work, not a directory to scroll.
- Preferences + a deeper assessment. You state your preferences, then an assessment captures how you work: working style, ambition, commitment, vision and values, alongside skills. A multi-trait algorithm "built on established psychological compatibility models" ranks the result, so you see compatible people, not hundreds of random profiles.
- A compatibility breakdown on every match shows where you align and where you differ, so the first call starts with what matters.
- A 10-day clock on every match, so matches don't sit unanswered. Intro calls are booked right where you match.
- Private by default. Your profile isn't shared publicly; only members who are compatible with you can see it. It's online and works anywhere.
Cost (checked Oct 2026): free to get started, with 5 likes a week, up to 3 active matches and up to 3 profile saves. Plus is $5 a week or $15 a month (₹300 / ₹1,000 in India) and adds 15 likes a week, unlimited active matches, everyone who liked you, the full compatibility score and breakdown on every profile, and up to 5 saves.
Best for: founders who care more about how someone works than how many profiles they can see.
2. YC Co-Founder Matching: best for a large free pool
Y Combinator's profile directory, run through Startup School. You make a profile, wait for approval, browse profiles and send invites; if someone accepts, that's a match.
- Cost: free. YC calls it "a completely free product".
- Best for: people who want volume and have time to sort. YC lists about 3,200 active profiles in San Francisco, 2,900 in London and 1,900 in Bangalore, and says it has made over 100K matches (self-reported, undated).
- Watch-outs: approval "may take up to a week", invites are capped at 15 a week, and you can be removed for hiring, selling services or going quiet after a match. Most invites go nowhere: in its first months, 130,000 invites led to 33,000 matches, about 25% (YC, 2021). Our YC Co-Founder Matching alternatives page covers why people look beyond it.
3. CoFoundersLab: best if you'll pay to message freely
A long-running founder directory you search and message yourself.
- Cost: a free "Connect" plan marked "Limited" against Premium's "Unlimited" for search, direct messages and video chat. Premium is $29 a month after a 30-day free trial (an annual option exists; its price isn't shown).
- Best for: people who want a second large directory and will pay for open messaging. It says it has "hundreds of thousands of founders" (self-reported, undated).
- Watch-outs: its terms say that after the trial "you consent to automatic payments", so set a reminder. Trustpilot rates it 1.3 out of 5 from 106 reviews, 94% one-star, with complaints about unwanted email, cancelling, billing and fake profiles. More in our CoFoundersLab review.
4. FounderCloud (formerly StartHawk): best for joining someone else's idea
A directory where you list what you bring and need, then browse founders and ideas looking for a cofounder.
- Cost: free "for as long as you like". Premium is $24 a month, or half that on a yearly plan, with a 7-day trial that needs a card. A $49 tier is on a waitlist.
- Best for: people who'd rather join a project than pitch their own.
- Watch-outs: the free plan allows one new conversation a day and one suggested founder a week, and only Premium members are listed in the founder grid, so people browsing it won't see a free profile. Unlimited messages and advanced search by stage, industry and keywords are Premium.
5. Entrepreneur First: best for early-career people who can go full-time
A full-time program that selects individuals, gives them access to "a pool of exceptional cofounders screened for their skills and behaviour", and helps them form a team.
- Cost: no program fee is listed. EF offers a grant while you look and invests up to $250K once you form a company.
- Best for: people early in their career; EF says its programs are "most valuable for people in the early stages of their career".
- Watch-outs: "we expect you to commit full-time to the program", in person in a hub city. Dates for 2027 are already out: Bangalore starts February 2027 (apply by 2 November 2026) and London starts April 2027.
6. Antler: best for a cofounder and a first check together
A residency where solo founders and incomplete teams spend up to eight weeks with other founders to form a team. "Most people join Antler solo," its UK page says.
- Cost: no application fee is listed. If Antler backs your team, its UK package includes a £40k program fee; the full terms are on its site.
- Best for: solo founders who want to meet a cofounder and pitch for funding in the same program.
- Watch-outs: "We don't invest in solo founders." If you don't form a team, you leave without funding.
7. Founder Institute: best for structure, mentors and events
A pre-seed accelerator with chapters around the world. Its virtual cofounder networking events are "open to anyone".
- Cost: the events list no price. For the accelerator's Silicon Valley Spring 2027 cohort, the entrance fee is $1,099 until 8 December 2026, then $1,299.
- Best for: solo founders who want accountability. About 60% of a typical cohort are solo founders, according to FI.
- Watch-outs: it asks for at least 20 hours of work a week, and it "does not make guarantees related to finding a co-founder."
8. Reddit (r/cofounderhunt and r/cofounder): best for a free public pitch
Open forums where people post that they're looking for a cofounder, or offering to be one. No matching, no paid tier.
- Cost: free.
- Best for: founders with a clear pitch who are happy to screen replies. r/cofounderhunt has about 66k members and r/cofounder about 62k (GummySearch, October 2026).
- Watch-outs: GummySearch files 49 of 110 recent themed r/cofounderhunt posts under self-promotion, so expect agencies among real founders. Usernames are anonymous; vet people before a call.
9. Indie Hackers: best for bootstrappers who build in public
A community where founders share what they're building. The value is months of posts that show how someone works.
- Cost: free.
- Best for: people who want a cofounder they've already watched ship. "Looking for a technical cofounder" posts still appear in 2026.
- Watch-outs: there's no cofounder feature; requests are ordinary posts, so you post and search yourself, and check a post's date before replying.
10. LinkedIn: best for checking track records
Not a cofounder platform, but the place most people's work history is public. You search, then reach out yourself.
- Cost: search, profiles and connection requests are free. Messaging people outside your network needs InMail, "a Premium account feature"; Premium Career gives 5 credits a month, up to 15 stored (LinkedIn Help).
- Best for: finding a specific profile and checking someone before a call.
- Watch-outs: people there aren't looking for a cofounder, so most messages land cold.
What does a three-month search cost on each?
Monthly prices hide the real bill. Here's what three months costs at October 2026 prices, if you pay monthly:
- $0: YC Co-Founder Matching, Reddit, Indie Hackers, and the free plans of Foundinity, FounderCloud and CoFoundersLab.
- $45: Foundinity Plus at $15 a month.
- About $58: CoFoundersLab Premium (the first 30 days are a trial, then $29 a month).
- About $72: FounderCloud Premium at $24 a month (less on a yearly plan).
- $1,099 or more: Founder Institute's Silicon Valley Spring 2027 entrance fee, plus 20 hours a week.
- Your full time: Entrepreneur First and Antler. Neither lists a fee to apply, but both expect you to work on it full-time.
Time is the bigger cost. On a directory, you do the sorting. YC's own data shows the imbalance: 31% of founders list engineering as a skill, while 80% of those who don't want an engineering cofounder (YC, 2021). If you're non-technical, expect to send a lot of invites.
When is paying worth it? Only when the free plan is the bottleneck: you run out of likes or invites every week and the people you meet are a good fit, or you need to message strangers at volume. If money is tight, our list of the best free cofounder matching websites shows what each free plan includes.
Left off this list
- Job boards and mentoring sites that appear on other lists (Wellfound, GrowthMentor). Useful, but not built for finding a cofounder.
- Foundersbase: its site blocked our checks on 26 October 2026, so we couldn't verify current details.
- Tools we couldn't confirm are active in 2026, such as FoundersList.
FAQ
What is the best cofounder matching platform in 2027?
If you want to see people who fit how you work, with a deadline that turns matches into calls, Foundinity. If you want a large free pool and don't mind sorting, YC Co-Founder Matching.
Are cofounder matching platforms free?
Most are free to start. YC, Reddit and Indie Hackers cost nothing; Foundinity, FounderCloud and CoFoundersLab have free plans, with paid plans of $15, $24 and $29 a month (checked October 2026).
Do cofounder matching platforms actually work?
They produce introductions, not guarantees. About a quarter of YC's early invites became matches, and in 2023 a YC partner wrote that "over 20 teams that met on the site have gotten funded by YC" (Hacker News). YC recommends "2-4 weeks of close work" before deciding.
What is the difference between a cofounder matching platform and a directory?
A directory gives you a pool to search and message yourself. A matching platform such as Foundinity ranks people for you based on your preferences and how you work.
