7 Best Places to Find a Cofounder in Switzerland (2026)
Free matchmaking events in four cities, student programs, and where Zurich, Lausanne, Geneva and Basel founders actually meet, with dates for the rest of 2026
TL;DR: Start with Foundinity, an online cofounder matching platform that works anywhere in Switzerland and shows you people who fit how you work, so you aren't scrolling through hundreds of profiles that don't come close. The other best places to find a cofounder in Switzerland in 2026 are the free Innosuisse cofounder matchmaking events (Lausanne 29 October and 3 December, Basel 17 November, Zurich 7 December), Zurich's Startup Campus and ETH clubs, Venturelab, EPFL and FONGIT around Lake Geneva, Basel Area, Talent Kick for students, and YC's cofounder matching. Use one online channel and one in-person event at the same time.

What makes Switzerland different
There are free, public cofounder matchmaking events. Innosuisse, the Swiss innovation agency, runs a free entrepreneurship training, and part of it is a series of "co-founder matchmaking events lasting two to three hours", organised "to enable you to meet co-founders and potential employees" (Innosuisse). None of the pages ranking for this search list them.
The pool is spread across regions and languages. No Swiss city appears in the top-cities list on YC's cofounder matching page; the tenth city there, Singapore, has about 600 active profiles (YC's own figures, read 26 October 2026). German is the main language for more than 60% of people in Switzerland, with French in Romandie and Italian in Ticino, and the government's country guide says English "has gained increasing significance in general day-to-day business" (About Switzerland). The person you want may be one train ride and one language away.
So the plan is simple: one online channel that reaches the whole country, plus the in-person events in your region.
1. Foundinity: online, works anywhere in Switzerland
Swiss founders are spread across Zurich, Lausanne, Geneva, Basel, Bern and Lugano. Foundinity reaches all of them at once.
What it is: a cofounder matching platform for people looking for a cofounder, technical and non-technical.
How it works:
- Preferences + a deeper assessment. You state your preferences, then an assessment captures how you work: working style, ambition, commitment, vision and values, alongside skills. A multi-trait algorithm "built on established psychological compatibility models" ranks the result, so you see compatible people instead of hundreds of random profiles.
- Compatibility breakdown. Every match shows where you align and where you differ. That gives you the agenda for a first call.
- A 10-day clock on every match, so matches don't sit unanswered. You book intro calls right where you match.
- Private by default. Your profile isn't public; only compatible members can see it. Useful if you still work at a bank, a pharma company or a university lab and aren't ready to say you're leaving.
- Online. It works the same from Zurich, Lausanne or Lugano, and with a cofounder in another country (see our guide to remote cofounders).
Cost (checked Oct 2026): free to get started: 5 likes a week, up to 3 active matches and up to 3 profile saves. Plus is $5 a week or $15 a month (US dollars): 15 likes a week, unlimited active matches, everyone who liked you, the full compatibility score and breakdown, and up to 5 profile saves.
Best for: anyone in Switzerland who wants to meet people who fit how they work, without waiting for the next event in their region.
2. Innosuisse Entrepreneurship Training: free courses with cofounder matchmaking
Innosuisse's training is Switzerland's closest thing to a national place to meet a cofounder in person, run by five regional providers: Startup Campus (East), Venturelab (West), the University of Basel (North), USI (South) and the University of Bern (Central).
- Module 2, Business Concept: a one-day boot camp, then ten four-hour evening classes. You don't need a team: "teams will be formed during the courses."
- Module 2+, Business Validation: the next step, with the cofounder matchmaking events run alongside it and a course called "Pivoting the Idea".
- Watch-outs:
- Events are in person and run on regional calendars. Check each event page for the language and for who can register.
- The format is pitches and speed-dating (as at USI's Lugano edition on 7 May 2026), which only tells you whom to call next.
- Cost (checked Oct 2026): "free of charge", per Innosuisse.
- Best for: meeting people in your own region who are committed enough to take a course.
3. Zurich: Startup Campus, ETH Entrepreneur Club and Student Project House
- Startup Campus is the Innosuisse provider for eastern Switzerland, and its events are free. Its next cofounder matchmaking is on 7 December 2026 in Zurich (Founders Hive calendar).
- ETH Entrepreneur Club is a student-run society that says "All our events are available for everyone." With Swisspreneur it runs Joinup, which calls itself "Switzerland's startup jobs platform": better for early team members than a cofounder.
- ETH Student Project House is a makerspace whose project directory has a category for "Projects looking for team members". It's for ETH students.
- Startup Nights in Winterthur, presented by the Swiss Startup Association, runs on 5-6 November 2026. It reported over 9,500 visitors and 150 startups in 2025 (its own figures).
- Watch-outs: ETH's "Startup Speed Dating" is about internships and jobs, not cofounders, and HackZurich, still on older resource lists, "is currently on hiatus".
- Cost (checked Oct 2026): Startup Campus events free; Startup Nights doesn't show ticket prices on its page.
- Best for: technical cofounders from ETH, and anyone who can get to Zurich for an evening event.
4. Lausanne and Geneva: Venturelab, EPFL and FONGIT
- Venturelab runs the Innosuisse modules in western Switzerland. Its cofounder matchmaking events are in Lausanne on 29 October and 3 December 2026.
- EPFL Startup Launchpad runs The Station plus events such as the Startup Champions Seed Night, but its events page lists no cofounder event right now. In March 2026, a student event at EPFL, the START Spotlight Apéro, brought together "students with complementary tech and business backgrounds from HSG and EPFL" (event flyer).
- FONGIT is Geneva's innovation foundation in Plan-les-Ouates, supported by the State of Geneva. Its next "Café+Croissant" morning is on Thursday 19 November. It says it has supported 300+ startups in Geneva (its own figure).
- Watch-outs: FONGIT and EPFL serve founders who already have a project. Use their events to meet people; nobody there introduces you to a cofounder.
- Cost (checked Oct 2026): Venturelab's Innosuisse events free; check FONGIT and EPFL event pages.
- Best for: founders in Romandie, and anyone who wants a technical cofounder from EPFL.
5. Basel: University of Basel and Basel Area
- The University of Basel is the Innosuisse provider for northern Switzerland. Its next cofounder matchmaking is in Basel on 17 November 2026.
- Basel Area Business & Innovation, the regional innovation agency, has run its own cofounder matchmaking events, "powered by Innosuisse Entrepreneurship Training". The April 2026 edition in Allschwil was a morning of speed-dating with 15+ startups, open both to startups looking for cofounders and to people looking to join one. The previous edition ran in November 2025.
- Watch-outs: the April 2026 event was "already fully booked", and no new date is on Basel Area's events page yet.
- Cost (checked Oct 2026): not stated on Basel Area's page; Innosuisse sessions free.
- Best for: anyone in north-west Switzerland.
6. Talent Kick: a cofounder team while you study
Talent Kick, from the Kick Foundation, is a "Swiss-wide, cross-university" program that helps students "form an interdisciplinary co-founder team" across Swiss universities.
- How it works: it runs over two to four semesters, about 2-6 hours a week in the first. The first milestones are a formed team and a mentor.
- Who can apply: students at a Swiss university or university of applied sciences with 2-4 semesters left, "as an individual or as a pre-formed team".
- Watch-outs: students only. The next deadline is 22 November 2026, 23:59 CET.
- Cost (checked Oct 2026): "completely free for you", per its page. Talent Kick reports 121 teams since 2021 (its own figure).
- Best for: students who want a cofounder from another university or field.
7. YC's cofounder matching: a global pool, little of it Swiss
Y Combinator's cofounder directory is free and open to anyone. You build a profile, search others and send invites.
- Watch-outs:
- YC's top-cities list runs from San Francisco (3,200 active profiles) to Singapore (600) and includes Berlin (800) and Paris (700), but no Swiss city.
- Profiles need approval, which "may take up to a week", and invites are capped at 15 a week (Startup School FAQ).
- It is "solely for seeking co-founders", not hiring.
- Cost (checked Oct 2026): free; YC calls it "a completely free product". It says over 100K matches have been made (its own undated figure).
- Best for: founders open to a remote or relocating cofounder. More in our YC cofounder matching review.

How to use a Swiss matchmaking event well
- Pitch the person, not just the idea. Name the skills you need, the hours a week and the city.
- Say your languages on your name tag and in your first sentence. A Lausanne event may run in French, a Zurich one in German or English.
- Book the follow-up within a week. Set a proper call before you leave, or within a few days.
- Run online and in-person together. Events come every few weeks per region; an online channel like Foundinity covers the weeks in between and the rest of the country.
- Test before you commit. Build one small thing together over a few weeks before you agree on anything bigger.
