7 Ways to Meet a Cofounder in Amsterdam in 2026 (Even If You Don't Speak Dutch)
The city's own cofounder matchmaking evenings, Antler's Amsterdam launch pad, the Science Park and campus labs, monthly pitch drinks, and what the startup permit asks if your cofounder isn't from the EU
TL;DR: Start with Foundinity, an online cofounder matching platform that works anywhere in and around Amsterdam and shows you people who fit how you work, so you don't spend evenings scrolling through profiles that aren't close to what you need. The other best ways to meet a cofounder in Amsterdam in 2026 are Finder, the city's own cofounder matchmaking evenings run by its university partners; Antler ONE's cofounder matching track, which has an Amsterdam launch pad; the campus labs at Science Park, VU and HvA; Tech Makers' free monthly pitch drinks; StartupAmsterdam's event calendar; and paid programs such as Founder Institute. All of them publish in English.

Amsterdam works in English. Its cofounder scene works through its campuses.
You don't need Dutch to start here. The Netherlands ranked first of 123 countries and regions in EF's English Proficiency Index 2025, with a score of 624 against a global average of 488 (EF EPI 2025 fact sheet). Every event and program in this guide publishes its pages in English.
But the big online cofounder pool barely sees the city. YC's cofounder matching lists its ten biggest cities by active profiles: London has 2,900, Berlin 800 and Paris 700. Amsterdam isn't on the list (YC's own figures, read 31 October 2026).
So the city's cofounder event comes from its universities. Finder, the only recurring cofounder matchmaking event we found here, is run by AMS Institute with three campus partners. Antler, the other team-forming route, runs its European residency from Berlin with a launch pad here.
The plan: one online channel for the weeks between events, plus one or two Amsterdam rooms you go back to.
1. Foundinity: online, works anywhere in and around Amsterdam
Finder comes round every three to five months. Foundinity works every day, and it reaches people in Haarlem, Utrecht or Rotterdam as easily as those in De Pijp.
What it is: a cofounder matching platform for people looking for a cofounder, technical and non-technical.
How it works:
- Preferences + a deeper assessment. You state your preferences, then an assessment captures how you work: working style, ambition, commitment, vision and values, alongside skills. A multi-trait algorithm "built on established psychological compatibility models" ranks the result, so you see compatible people instead of hundreds of random profiles.
- Compatibility breakdown. Every match shows where you align and where you differ. That's the agenda for your first call, which matters more when you and your match grew up with different ways of working.
- A 10-day clock on every match, so matches don't sit unanswered. You book intro calls right where you match.
- Private by default. Your profile isn't public; only compatible members can see it. Useful if you work at one of the city's tech companies and aren't ready to say you're leaving.
- Online. Foundinity has no Amsterdam office or events. It works the same from Science Park or Zuidas, and with a cofounder in another country (see our guide to remote cofounders).
Cost (checked Oct 2026): free to get started: 5 likes a week, up to 3 active matches and up to 3 profile saves. Plus is $5 a week or $15 a month: 15 likes a week, unlimited active matches, everyone who liked you, the full compatibility score and breakdown, and up to 5 profile saves.
Best for: anyone in Amsterdam, new to the city or not, who wants to meet people who fit how they work, without waiting for the next matchmaking evening.
2. Finder: Amsterdam's own cofounder matchmaking evenings
Finder is the closest Amsterdam has to a regular cofounder night. AMS Institute organises it with Venture Centre HvA, Demonstrator Lab (DLAB) and Startup Village Amsterdam, and each edition moves to a different partner's campus.
- Four editions in under a year:
- 2 December 2025 at Startup Village, Amsterdam Science Park
- 17 March 2026 at VU's Demonstrator Lab
- 16 June 2026, the third edition, which opened AMS Tech Week
- 29 October 2026 at the HvA Amstelcampus
- How it works: a short opening, then one-to-one rounds (six 15-minute rounds in June), then drinks. You wear a colour by role: red for "I have an idea/startup and I'm looking for a co-founder", orange for "I don't have an idea yet, but I want to join one".
- Who it's for: founders with an idea or startup, and "joiners" who want a role of 16+ hours a week in an Amsterdam startup, as a cofounder or an early employee.
- Watch-outs:
- No next date is announced yet. The last four came three to five months apart; watch AMS Institute's events page.
- Tickets "Require Approval", and no page states a price.
- Some joiners want a job, not a cofounder role. Ask early.
- Best for: meeting several people in one evening who are all looking for the same thing.
3. Antler ONE: the cofounder matching track, with an Amsterdam launch pad
Antler runs one European residency, Antler ONE, "from our main hub in Berlin, with a launch pad in Amsterdam". Its application form lists Amsterdam and Berlin as one region.
- The cofounder matching track is for "Solo founders or incomplete teams" and lasts about 10 weeks; some founders "find a co-founder during the residency". Teams that form can then build from Amsterdam.
- Timing: twice a year, "starting March & September"; applications open year-round. Antler lists "Free office space".
- Watch-outs:
- It's full-time and selective; be ready to leave your job.
- It's run from Berlin. Complete teams from Amsterdam spend their first two weeks there.
- Antler is an investor. Read its terms on its own pages before you apply.
- Best for: solo founders ready to go full-time who want to test several possible cofounders at once.
4. The campus route: Science Park, VU and HvA
Amsterdam's universities share their startup support through IXA, their joint innovation office, and through incubators on campus.
- Amsterdam Science Park. Startup Village, at Science Park 608, is "powered by UvA Ventures Holding" and supports "tech startups at every stage, from idea to scaling". ACE is the universities' incubator; the University of Amsterdam says its programmes are "predominantly geared towards STEM students".
- VU's Demonstrator Lab (DLAB). Open to students and staff of VU, UvA, HvA and Amsterdam UMC, at the VU campus and Science Park, from the earliest idea stage (IXA's description).
- Venture Centre HvA. A community for HvA students, at Studio HvA on the Amstelcampus.
- UvA's Minor in Entrepreneurship. "In this minor you found a business together with other students": a cofounder test with a grade attached.
- Watch-outs: most of this is for students, staff and alumni. If you aren't one, go to the open events at Science Park (Lab42 hosts "AI at Sciencepark" on 5 November 2026).
- Best for: student and researcher founders, and non-technical founders looking for deep tech skills.
5. Tech Makers: free monthly drinks and pitching
Tech Makers is an Amsterdam Meetup group with 5,766 members. Its monthly event is simple: "grab a drink, share a pitch, and spark conversations".
- When: monthly. The latest was on 30 October 2026 at TAG, Jacob Bontiusplaats 9. The next date wasn't listed yet when we checked.
- Cost: "Registration is free."
- Why it helps: people who come up to you after your pitch have already chosen your idea.
- Watch-outs: it's a general tech crowd, not a cofounder event. Have a one-line version of what you need ready (our cofounder profile tips work for a pitch too).
- Best for: founders who already have an idea and want to say it out loud.
6. StartupAmsterdam's calendar: find the right room
StartupAmsterdam is "an initiative launched by the City of Amsterdam in 2015". It keeps a public calendar of startup and tech events and says the city has "more than 500 tech meetups" and over 40 coworking spaces (its own figures).
- Early November 2026, from its calendar:
- 4 November: The Amsterdam AI Summit 2026, Zuiderkerk, 18:00-21:00
- 5 November: AI at Sciencepark, Lab42, 16:00-17:00
- 5-6 November: Forward Summit 2026, World Trade Center Amsterdam
- 6 November: Female Founders Brunch, Capital C Bloemenmarkt, 09:00-11:30
- Why it helps: a cofounder in your sector is more likely at a sector event than at a general mixer. Pick one series and go back.
- Watch-outs: most listings don't show a price, and none is a cofounder event.
- Best for: founders who know their sector and want to meet the people already in it.
7. Founder Institute Amsterdam and Rockstart: structure, not introductions
Neither introduces you to a cofounder; one helps you start alone.
- Founder Institute Amsterdam is taking applications for its "Amsterdam - Austria Fall 2026" cohort: "10 sessions plus Funding Day". It says "No Co-Founder? No Problem." It also has free online sessions on 3 November and 1 December 2026.
- Rockstart backs "purpose-driven founders operating in Energy, AgriFood and Emerging Technology", from offices in Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Bogotá. It works with startups that already exist.
- Watch-outs: Founder Institute's page states no deadline and doesn't say if sessions are in person; the cohort is shared with Austria. Rockstart lists no 2026 intake dates.
- Cost (checked Oct 2026): Founder Institute: $1,149 entrance fee (teams of two or three pay 1.5 times). Rockstart: by application.
- Best for: solo founders who want deadlines while they look; existing energy or food teams (Rockstart).

If your cofounder isn't from the EU: the startup permit in six facts
Your best match may need a residence permit. The Dutch immigration service (IND) has a start-up permit; the facts, from IND's own page, read 31 October 2026:
- It lasts one year at most and can't be extended.
- You need a facilitator: an experienced startup mentor, under a signed contract, who can't hold a majority in your company. The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) keeps the list.
- The company must be innovative, for example new to the Netherlands, and the founder must play an active role.
- You need a step-by-step plan, assessed by RVO, and both you and the facilitator must be registered with the Chamber of Commerce (KvK).
- You need enough money to live on for the year, or the facilitator funds your stay. Applying costs €423; IND decides within 90 days (this can be extended).
- After the year, you can apply as self-employed, with a facilitator's statement of at least three months of successful mentoring.
A summary, not advice; check IND's page before you apply.
